Porchetta Day

Gunnedah is set to recreate Little Tuscany in the Heart of the Namoi Valley at the Annual Porchetta Day celebrations, held annually in late September. To experience a weekend of gourmet Italian inspired cuisine, ample premium wines and long trestle tables set under lazy Mediterranean-like skies will be an easy decision for hard core foodies, gastronomic tourists, springtime sweethearts and families alike.
The weekend's main event 'The Annual Porchetta Day' will marry the irresistible aromas and rustic delights of Italian cuisine with the acclaimed agricultural products of the Gunnedah district. Each year thousands turn out to enjoy a day of fine food, wine and entertainment. Crowds bask in perfect sunshine to enjoy the tasty foodie delights on offer, including the famous porchetta (roasted pig) – the centrepiece of the festival.

Succulent spit roasted pork from local farms, traditionally crafted pasta from Liverpool Plains durum wheat, olive oils from Gunnedah groves, and rich, home grown tomato and basil infused sauces will combine to create an inspiring Italian gastronomic experience. Organisers estimate record crowds of around 5500 people passing through the gates, as they flock to food stalls to enjoy such dishes as home-made gnocchi, lasagne, bruschetta, pork rolls, Italian sausages, pizza, gelato, pasta and desserts, and Italian wine and beer also flowing.
With Italian and European music adding to the atmosphere, festivities like the Kid's pizza making and the new Punch and Judy Show are winners, while the traditional spaghetti eating competition has hungry festival goers eating pasta against the clock.
